Why did you choose accounting for your career? Why ACCA?
I chose accounting after looking for a career change. I was always interested in business, and accounting gave me the perfect opportunity to add value to any business. I chose ACCA due to its flexibility and world-class recognition it provides to those who complete it.
What field of work or study were you in before you started your ACCA exams?
After leaving school, I qualified as a vehicle crash repairer after completing a 4-year trade apprenticeship. I then changed things up in my career, moving on to become a qualified accounting technician with ATI Ireland before finally becoming a member of ACCA.
Why did you choose Accountancy School?
I spoke to some colleagues about suggestions on where to study, and Accountancy School came up as one with a high standard of teaching, which pushed me towards them. The school’s high pass rates are a testament to the hard work that all the lecturers put in.
What advice would you give to someone starting their ACCA journey?
One piece of advice I would give is to be consistent with study and revision — small amounts each day over the exam season accumulate to a lot of hours before you even start your revision period.
What is your career goal after gaining your ACCA qualification?
My goal since completing ACCA will be to continuously learn more about all things finance and business; with the ever-changing industry of accountancy, you need to continuously upskill and keep up to date. I then hope to advance upwards in my career, always looking for the next move to which I can challenge and test myself.
