Why did you choose accounting for your career? Why ACCA?

I always loved numbers and wanted to be an accountant since I was 17. I chose ACCA due to its flexibility and ability to travel with the qualification.

What field of work or study were you in before you started your ACCA exams?

I studied to become a Home Economics and Irish teacher for 5 years in Saint Angela’s College, Sligo. Teaching wasn’t for me, so when I finished the degree, I began working as a junior auditor in an accountancy firm in Limerick City. I chose ACCA due to the flexibility and global recognition.

Why did you choose Accountancy School?

I heard great things about Accountancy School from colleagues at work. The online lectures suited me as well, and being able to watch the lectures back is a great learning tool.

What advice would you give to someone starting their ACCA journey?

Keep on top of your lectures and homework from the start. Tip away at the study (little and often) and practise questions. Make sure to keep up to date with technical articles and utilise the ACCA study hub — it’s a great tool.

What is your career goal after gaining your ACCA qualification?

I would love to become a senior financial accountant in my current job and have my own team. I would also love to lecture for ACCA part-time in the distant future.
